Estimate checkout total

For an in-store purchase, enter the taxable product price and choose the purchase type. Select a checked sales-tax city or enter the full rate for the store address; otherwise this is a state-rate minimum.

How the tax works

Minnesota adult-use cannabis sales carry 15% cannabis gross-receipts tax plus 6.875% state sales tax and the applicable local general sales tax. These are calculated on the same pretax product price, not compounded. The state and local sales components are rounded separately: the Department of Revenue's $10 Bloomington example has $1.50 cannabis tax, $0.69 state sales and $0.22 local sales, totaling $12.41. With no checked location, $100 has only a $121.88 state-rate minimum, since local sales tax is unknown.

The five checked city sales rates cover October–December 2026 in-store purchases. Use the address lookup for the exact store and purchase date, particularly near boundaries. A medical sale is exempt from both taxes only when the patient is enrolled in Minnesota's state medical cannabis registry and the seller has a medical cannabis retail endorsement. Visiting patients and patients only in a Tribal medical program do not qualify for this exemption. The calculator's medical option assumes those conditions; delivery fees and non-cannabis items are outside this estimate. An unreimbursed store coupon reduces the taxable price; a reimbursed manufacturer coupon can lower payment without lowering the tax base, so this calculator does not estimate final payment after that coupon.

Use the taxable product price after the store’s own discounts. Manufacturer coupons paid back to the store may lower what you pay without lowering the taxable price; this tool estimates tax, not the final payment after those coupons. Delivery charges and other items are excluded.
