Cannabis law. In plain language.

Cannabis laws,
state by state.

Find the rules for your state. Each guide brings together possession, medical access, visiting patients, home growing and taxes.

All 50 states and Washington, DC have an editorial guide here. Check each guide’s sources and notes to see when the rules were reviewed and what still needs checking.

Compare the right rules

A state may treat adult-use marijuana, medical marijuana and hemp differently. A possession rule does not automatically tell you whether retail sales or home growing are allowed.

A medical card can also have different effects at home and when traveling. Check the guide for the rules and sources that apply to that state.
