How the tax works
Missouri charges 6% marijuana tax on adult-use retail sales or 4% on medical sales. Ordinary state and local sales tax is also collected on either purchase. The state sales-tax portion is 4.225%. An adult-use sale may have an additional local marijuana tax of up to 3%; it does not apply to medical sales. The taxes in this estimate are calculated independently on the discounted pretax selling price. On $100, before any ordinary local sales tax or extra adult-use local marijuana tax, the state-only minimum is $110.23 adult-use or $108.23 medical.
Enter the full ordinary sales-tax rate for the store address; this does not include the 6% or 4% marijuana tax or any extra adult-use marijuana tax, which are added separately. For adult-use, select the extra 3% marijuana tax only for a store inside Kansas City, Missouri or St. Louis city limits, or enter another verified extra local rate. A 2025 Missouri Supreme Court decision means county adult-use marijuana tax does not stack on a store inside an incorporated city; the state says its rate lookup is being updated. Outside those checked city areas, an unknown local marijuana rate produces a labeled minimum, not a complete quote. A listed tax area does not establish that a dispensary operates there.
Use a pretax retail price after discounts, excluding separately stated taxes. Tax-inclusive advertised prices must be converted to a pretax price first. Store fees, delivery charges and receipt rounding can change the amount owed; this estimate does not resolve their tax treatment.
