Estimate checkout total

Enter the price and purchase type. The adult-use retail rate is 13% throughout New York, so there is no location choice.

How the tax works

New York's adult-use cannabis retail tax totals 13% of the retail price: a 9% state portion and a 4% local portion. The local portion is fixed statewide; no city choice is needed. Adult-use cannabis products are exempt from ordinary sales tax, so do not add it. On a $100 pretax purchase, the estimated total is $113. A separate 9% distributor tax occurs earlier and is not added at checkout.

For qualifying medical cannabis from a registered organization, the 3.15% medical tax is imposed on the seller's gross receipts and cannot appear as a separate receipt charge. The calculator therefore adds no direct retail tax to a $100 medical price; business costs may already be reflected in that price.

Use a pretax retail price after discounts, excluding separately stated taxes. Tax-inclusive advertised prices must be converted to a pretax price first. Store fees, delivery charges and receipt rounding can change the amount owed; this estimate does not resolve their tax treatment.
