Estimate checkout total

Enter the total eligible medicinal cannabis product price for one completed purchase from a licensed medical cannabis pharmacy. Utah adds one $3 transaction fee and no sales tax on those products.

How the tax works

Utah exempts medicinal-dosage cannabis and cannabis products sold by a licensed medical cannabis pharmacy from state and local sales tax. It charges a separate uniform medical cannabis transaction fee. The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food's schedule, updated 1 July 2026, lists that fee at $3.00. It applies once per completed pharmacy purchase, not per item. A $100 eligible product purchase therefore shows $0 sales tax, one $3 fee and a $103 estimated total.

Utah law explicitly taxes medical cannabis devices, so do not include devices or other accessories in the product amount. The fee estimate assumes one purchase at a licensed medical cannabis pharmacy; other charges or an ineligible transaction need a separate store quote.

For one completed pharmacy purchase, enter the total eligible medicinal cannabis product price. The $3 fee applies once to the transaction, not to each item. Devices and other store charges are excluded.

Questions about Utah cannabis taxes

Does Utah sales tax apply to eligible medical cannabis products?

No. Utah exempts cannabis and cannabis products in medicinal dosage form sold by a licensed medical cannabis pharmacy from state and local sales tax. This calculator covers that qualifying product sale. Official source

Why is the total $3 above the product price if sales tax is zero?

Utah charges a separate medical cannabis transaction fee. The Department of Agriculture and Food’s schedule effective July 2026 lists the uniform transaction fee as $3.00, so a $100 eligible product checkout is estimated at $103 before other charges. Official source

Is the Utah $3 fee charged for every item?

No. The Utah code authorizes the medical cannabis pharmacy fee for each transaction. This estimate adds $3 once to the checkout transaction, regardless of how many eligible products make up the entered amount. Official source

Are Utah medical cannabis devices also sales-tax exempt?

No. Utah law separately makes medical cannabis devices taxable. Keep devices and other accessories out of this eligible-product input and ask the pharmacy for their tax treatment. Official source
