Estimate checkout total

Enter the pretax price and choose adult-use, medical cannabis, or prepared food containing medical cannabis. Maine lists separate rates for these purchases.

How the tax works

Maine taxes adult-use cannabis retail sales at 14% from 1 January 2026. Qualifying medical cannabis sales use the 5.5% rate, except prepared food containing medical cannabis, which uses the 8% prepared-food rate. The Maine Revenue Services table lists these as alternative rates, so do not add ordinary sales tax again. On a $100 taxable price, the three totals are $114, $105.50 and $108.

Choose the prepared-food option only if the seller confirms that category; not every edible is necessarily prepared food. This estimate covers the listed cannabis or medical prepared-food product price, excluding separately priced accessories and other charges.

Use a pretax retail price after discounts, excluding separately stated taxes. Tax-inclusive advertised prices must be converted to a pretax price first. Store fees, delivery charges and receipt rounding can change the amount owed; this estimate does not resolve their tax treatment.
