Estimate checkout total

Enter the pretax price and choose adult-use or a qualifying medical sale. For adult-use, choose a checked town or verify whether 1% local sales tax applies.

How the tax works

Vermont adult-use cannabis retail sales add 14% cannabis excise and 6% ordinary sales tax on the same pretax price. A town with local-option sales tax uses a combined 7% sales rate. The Tax Department's $100 examples total $120 without local option or $121 where it applies. The excise is not added to the sales-tax base. Sales tax is rounded once at the combined 6% or 7% rate; when shown separately, the local line is the difference between the rounded 7% and 6% amounts.

A cannabis sale is exempt from all three charges only when a licensed medical dispensary or retailer with a medical-use endorsement sells to a registered qualifying patient or through a registered caregiver. A patient buying as an ordinary adult-use customer does not automatically qualify. The local option follows the destination where the buyer receives the product, so verify the exact address.

Use a pretax retail price after discounts, excluding separately stated taxes. Tax-inclusive advertised prices must be converted to a pretax price first. Store fees, delivery charges and receipt rounding can change the amount owed; this estimate does not resolve their tax treatment.
