Estimate checkout total

Enter the price of a qualifying medical marijuana product sold by a permitted dispensary. No direct retail tax is added to that product. Accessories and other charges are excluded.

How the tax works

Pennsylvania does not charge sales tax on a qualifying medical marijuana product sold to a patient or caregiver by a permitted dispensary. The state's 5% medical marijuana tax is paid by the grower or processor when it sells to the dispensary, not added as a separate patient checkout percentage. A $100 medical marijuana product sale therefore has $0 direct retail tax and remains $100 before any store charge.

This estimate covers the medical marijuana product only. Vaporizers, batteries, grinders and other accessories are subject to sales tax and must be priced separately. The product's tax exemption applies statewide; selecting a city is unnecessary for this product-only estimate.

Use a pretax retail price after discounts, excluding separately stated taxes. Tax-inclusive advertised prices must be converted to a pretax price first. Store fees, delivery charges and receipt rounding can change the amount owed; this estimate does not resolve their tax treatment.
